The Windows 11 24H2 Update, also known as the 2024 Update, was officially released by Microsoft on October 1, 2024. The 2024 update can be installed on any device already running Windows 11 version 23H2 or 22H2 and includes all features and fixes in previous cumulative updates to Windows 11, version 23H2.
Windows 11, version 24H2 brings new features like Wi-Fi 7 support, Sudo for Windows, the ability to compress files in many formats like 7Zip and TAR directly from File Explorer, and exclusive new features for Copilot+ PCs.
However, some users have reported the following issues after installing Windows 11 2024 Update (version 24H2), and in this guide we show you how to fix them if you experience any of them:
- Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) on some devices.
- Fingerprint sensor issues: Fingerprint sensors not working properly after locking the device.
- Network Connectivity issues.
- Easy Anti-Cheat software stops responding and causes Windows to crash with a blue screen
- App Compatibility: Some apps, such as Safe Exam Browser and some wallpaper customization apps, may not work as expected.
- Driver Issues with Intel Smart Sound Technology drivers.
How to FIX: Windows 11 issues after 24H2 update.
If you experience any of the above or other issues after upgrading your system to Windows 11 24H2, you can try to fix them using the instructions below, and if that fails, you can roll back your system* to version 23H2 until Microsoft fixes them in a future update.
* Note: To go back to your previous version of Windows, navigate to Start -> Settings -> System -> Recovery and next to “Go back” select Go back. This process will keep your personal files, but it’ll remove apps and drivers installed after the upgrade, as well as any changes you made to settings. In most cases, you’ll have 10 days to go back.
Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) issues.
The Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) issues in Windows 11 24H2, usually occurs because the installed drivers are incompatible with the latest version of Windows.
Resolution: To work around this issue, make sure all drivers are up-to-date and check if there are additional updated drivers for your device’s hardware from its manufacturer. To do this:
Step 1. Install all Windows & Optional Updates.
1. Navigate to Start -> Settings -> Windows Update and click Check for updates to find and install all Windows updates.
2. Then, in Windows Update screen click Advanced Options and then click Optional Updates under “Additional Options”.
3. In Optional updates, check all the checkboxes to install all the available Windows and Driver updates and click Download & install.
Step 2. Download Latest Drivers from Manufacturer’s webpage.
1. Navigate to your device manufacturer’s support site and check if any new drivers are available for your device’s hardware. If so, download and install them.
Fingerprint sensor issues.
After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, some devices may encounter issues with fingerprint sensors. In these devices, these sensors can become unresponsive after the device is locked, preventing the use of Windows Hello fingerprint authentication. As a result, users will need to unlock or log in to their device using an alternative method.
Resolution: To work around this issue, use a different method to log in on you device (Password, PIN) and then reinstall the fingerprint sensor driver and install the latest BIOS/Firmware for your device. To do this:
1. Open Device Manager, expand Biometric devices and then right-click on the Fingerprint sensor and select Uninstall Device.
2. Restart your computer to force Windows to reinstall the Fingerprint driver automatically.
3. Log into Windows and verify in Device Manager that the driver is installed.
4. Finally, restart your computer again an test the Fingerprint sensor. If the problem persists, install the latest BIOS/Firmware for your device, according the instructions on manufacturer’s website.
Network Connectivity issues.
Many users have reported that after updating their Windows 11 systems to 24H2, they are unable to connect to the network both via cable and Wi-Fi with one of the following symptoms:
- All Network connections (Wi-Fi & Ethernet) are disabled in the control panel and when users enable them they return to “Disabled” state.
- Inability to connect to a wireless or LAN network because the Wi-Fi or the LAN is missing from taskbar and in control panel.
- The system connects to Network but with no Internet connectivity because does not receive a valid IP address.
Resolution: To work around the above issues, try the following that may help:
- If you cannot enable the network connections or if you cannot connect to a network, uninstall the network adapters in Device Manager and then reboot your computer to reinstall them.
- If you be able to connect to the network, but you cannot connect to the Internet, open the Network connection’s properties, deactivate the Internet Protocol TCP/IP v6 and then open the Properties of Internet Protocol TCP/IP v4, disable DHCP and set a static IP address.
- Roll back to Windows 11 version 23H2 until Microsoft fixes these issue.
Easy Anti-Cheat Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) issues.
According to Microsoft, older versions of Easy Anti-Cheat drivers are not compatible with Windows 11, version 24H2, and therefore Easy Anti-Cheat software causes problems on devices with Alder Lake+ processors and Intel vPro platform. Notably, when users launch or play certain games, affected devices may become unresponsive and display a blue screen with the “MEMORY_MANAGEMENT” error.
Resolution: To address this issue, Microsoft says that updating your games can help resolve this issue. *
* Additional info: Microsoft is collaborating with Easy Anti-Cheat to address the incompatibility issue between Windows 11, version 24H2, and the Easy Anti-Cheat application. Until then, a compatibility hold has been applied to devices with the incompatible Easy Anti-Cheat drivers, preventing them from receiving the Windows 11, version 24H2 update via the Windows Update release channel. This means, that if you attempt to install Windows 11, version 24H2 using the media creation tool and your device has incompatible drivers, you will receive a pop-up message indicating that your device is not ready for this new version of Windows.
App Compatibility issues.
If after installing Windows 11 24H2 you face problems with an App, navigate to developer’s website and check if there is an update for the app or either Uninstall and reinstall the affected app(s).
Additionally, if you’re using the Safe Exam Browser application version 3.7 or lower, download and install the version 3.8 from: https://safeexambrowser.org/download_en.html
- To uninstall an app in Windows 11: navigate to Start -> Settings -> Apps -> Installed apps and located in the list the app you want to remove. Then, click on three dots menu and click Uninstall.

To reinstall an app in Windows 11: Open Microsoft Store, type the name of the app that you want to install in Search area and press Enter. Then click on the app at the search results and click the Get button to install the app.
Intel Smart Sound Technology driver issues.
Intel and Microsoft have identified compatibility issues with certain versions of Intel Smart Sound Technology (Intel SST) drivers on Intel 11th Gen Core processors running Windows 11, version 24H2. Devices with the affected Intel SST driver may encounter a blue screen error. The problematic driver is named Intel® Smart Sound Technology (Intel® SST) Audio Controller, which is listed under System Devices in Device Manager, with the file name ‘IntcAudioBus.sys’. This issue can occur if the file version is 10.29.0.5152 or 10.30.0.5152.
Resolution: To work around this issue, download and run the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant (Intel® DSA) and let the application to detect and update the Intel drivers on your system.
